Thomas Targonski Obituary

Thomas Michael Targonski, known affectionately as Tom or simply "T" to those closest to him, passed away on March 21, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on May 18, 1950, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Tom was a beacon of love and generosity, touching the lives of all who knew him. He passed peacefully after a sudden and aggressive cancer was discovered less than a month ago, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment to family.

Tom's life was one of dedication and devotion, to his friends and family. He was a loving husband to Debra (Moran) Targonski, and this coming June would have marked their 50th wedding anniversary—a milestone of shared love and cherished memories. Tom was also a beloved father to Kristen (Targonski) and husband Chris Richardson of Middleton, Thomas and wife Jill (Levinsohn) Targonski of San Francisco, CA, and Tara (Targonski) and husband Jason Perry of Woburn.  His role as "Puppy T" to his eight grandchildren—Sam, Ben, Sarah, Maya, Lucy, Julian, Millie and Kaylah—was one he took on with immense pride and joy.

Tom is survived by his brother, Paul Targonski and his wife Rose of Methuen, and he remains a cherished brother-in-law, uncle, and friend within a close-knit and loving family. His brothers Frances and Phillip Targonski predeceased him, but the fond memories they created together continue to bring smiles to the faces of those who remember them.

Professionally, Tom made his mark in the financial world with a distinguished 25-year tenure at the Boston Stock Exchange, followed by a decade of consulting for various Trading Exchanges. His astute mind and attention to detail made him a respected figure among his colleagues. However, Tom's true passion lay in giving back to his community. He was an active member of the Middleton Rail Trail, where he dedicated his time and efforts to improve the quality of life in his chosen home.

Tom's interests reflected the life he led—full of warmth and joy. His greatest loves were his wife, family, and friends. The serene beauty of Harwich in Cape Cod and the timeless tunes of the Beatles were among his favorite pleasures. Attending his grandchildren's sports and activities brought him immeasurable happiness, and he was a constant presence in the stands, cheering them on with enthusiasm and pride.

The words that best describe Tom are selfless, loving, and generous. He approached life with a heart open to giving, whether it was his time, his resources, or simply a listening ear. Tom's selflessness was evident in every aspect of his life, including his unwavering support for his family and friends.

Tom's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. His legacy is one of love, kindness, and a life well-lived. We take comfort in knowing that the memories of Tom's gentle soul, warm hugs, and selfless nature will live on in the stories of those who loved him.

As we say farewell to Thomas Targonski, we celebrate a life that exemplified the best of us. His journey on earth may have ended, but the impact of his love and generosity will endure forever. Tom's memory will be cherished and honored, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
