Steven B. (Steve) Macdonald

Steven Macdonald, known to many as Steve, of Middleton, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2026, at the age of 72. Steve was born on April 29, 1954, in Lynn, Massachusetts. Throughout his life, he carried a strong sense of character, curiosity, and quiet steadiness that defined him.

He was the beloved husband of Kathy DiMauro and a cherished brother to Andrea Holden and her husband, Peter. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Barry, and his brother, Neal. Steve cherished his stepsons, Christopher, his wife Laurin, their children Colby and Nathan, Timothy, his wife Liz, and their children Quinlyn and Lucas. He held a special place in his heart for his Aunt Fran Laubner, the last of his parents’ generation. Steve also leaves behind his beloved brother-in-law Robert DiMauro, his wife Misty. He loved to tease Bob about entrées he made but always enjoyed eating them. He also leaves behind his nieces, Grace and Victoria Holden, and his nephew, Barry Macdonald. Steve will be fondly remembered by a wide circle of friends and extended family. He lived by the belief that “everyone was a friend; no one was a stranger,” and he valued the fellowship he found through his lifelong connection with friends of Bill W.

Steve was a man of many talents who pursued his interests with discipline and a genuine love of learning. He attended North Shore Community College and went on to become an avid aviator. Aviation was a source of joy, freedom, and lifelong fascination for him. Steve was an exceptional pilot who flew planes and had a special love for flying helicopters. He was also a licensed appraiser and a licensed real estate broker in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, reflecting his dedication and professionalism. For over 40 years, Steve served as a real estate broker with Coldwell Banker in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. He built a respected career marked by integrity, sound judgment, and deep knowledge of his field. He left a lasting impression on colleagues, clients, and all who had the privilege of working with him.

Steve was a great conversationalist who took a genuine interest in the world around him. His passion for flying and love for photography captured images that spoke volumes to him. Steve was always willing to fly and loved bringing passengers for helicopter rides. He absolutely loved the warmth of Florida; the unique thrifting adventures and exploring Marco Island where we loved hanging out and calling it downtown. He appreciated good food, simple pleasures, and had a great zest for life. Steve was a valued volunteer at the Wakefield Food Pantry for many years. Steve will be remembered as intelligent, thoughtful, and perceptive, as well as loving, loyal, and deeply human.

He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his family—especially his wife, Kathy—enduring friendships, and a life well lived. His memory will be treasured, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
