Shirley Scott Obituary

Click **HERE** for memorial donations. Shirley Ann (Hunnewell) Scott, 88, passed from her residence at Windsor Place in Wilmington MA on February 3, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Born in Lowell on November 11, 1931, to Ora (Ayotte) and Donald Hunnewell, Shirley and younger sibling, Nancy shared many of life's adventures in Lewiston Maine as the popular "Hunnewell Girls". Shirley met her husband, Robert E. Scott, a handsome young Marine at the Lithuanian Club in Central Square, Somerville and they were married in 1953. Their only child, Robert G. Scott, arrived on February 3, 1955. For extra Christmas money, Shirley took a temporary part-time job at the phone company and ended up staying for several years before accepting a position at the Boston Company. Due in large part to her amazing memory and exceptional people skills she rose through the ranks in the banking industry , surviving mergers and acquisitions for 35 years until retiring as a VP from BNY Mellon. Doing much of the work themselves, Shirley and her husband turned a talent for buying and renovating "fixer uppers" into a lucrative and life-long pursuit. At one point they had purchased and sold 13 houses over a 15-year period. Shirley and Bob were also a great team on the dance floor winning a cruise ship competition with their smooth moves to the tune of Tie a Yellow Ribbon. The couple took up golf with lessons at the former Middleton Golf Course, but it was Shirley who got the hole-in-one! Most of all Shirley Scott loved being with and doting on her family. Her explanation for taking her granddaughter and nieces to Richardson's Dairy so often was simple, "Sometimes you just need a frappe." According to her family her best attribute was making people feel cherished. She made friends in a minute, kept them for a lifetime, and always remembered everything about them. Her sister Nancy may have coined the phrase but the whole family repeated it often: "Everyone needs an Aunt Shirley!" Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Bob and her son Bobby. She is survived by her much-loved granddaughter, Sarah Scott and her mother Patricia A. (Corcione) Scott of Cary, North Carolina, her sister Nancy Hunnewell Colby, nieces Karen Colby and husband John Nunziato of Lynnfield, MA, Alison Colby-Campbell and her husband Jonathan Campbell of Haverhill, MA, and Hollis Colby of Wenham, MA, as well as by her nephew Drew Colby and his wife Carol of Wellesley, MA. She shared her abundant heart with her nieces Logan Colby Nunziato and Sloan Colby Nunziato of Wakefield, MA, Meaghan Colby of Raleigh, North Carolina and Hunter Colby of Arlington, Virginia. Below:
