Robert O'Briant of Winchester passed away on July 14 at Lahey Clinic with his beloved wife, Susan at his side. He was 85 yrs. old. Born in Mt. Tirzah, NC , he was the son of Abner & Lonie (Oakley) O'Briant. A retired Baybanks Vice-President in Commercial Lending, Bob was a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Alpha Fraternity. He also attended both George Washington University Law School and Suffolk University Law School where received his Law degree. In WWII he served in the 33rd Infantry during the Philippine Liberation . During the Korean War, he transferred to the Air Force achieving the rank of Master Sergeant and was stationed in Korea and Japan. He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Winchester Rotary Club, as well as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Marblehead Flotilla. He was past Commander of the Salem Flotilla. An avid sailor, Bob was a member of the Palmers Cove Yacht Club in Salem. He and his wife, Susan also enjoyed skiing and hiking in the White Mountains. Besides his wife, he leaves a brother, Dr. C. Rex O'Briant of Gilbert, AZ and three sisters: Irma Strickland and Margaret Collier of Fayetteville, NC and Sara Walker of Lillington. He also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen & Armanda Manning of Pawtucket, RI and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend the wake on Friday, July 20 from 5-8pm at the MacKey Funeral Home, 22 Conant St., Danvers, MA. A Funeral Mass with military honors be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, 188 Elliott St. (Rt. 62) , Danvers, MA. A private burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Westborough, MA at a later date.
