Richard G. Pike, known affectionately to friends and family as Dick, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the age of 78 in North Oxford, Massachusetts. Born on June 13, 1946, in Malden, Massachusetts, Dick's life was a testament to his loving nature, wisdom, and thoughtfulness, which touched the lives of many around him.
Educated at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston, Dick furthered his studies at Bentley College of Finance and Accounting, where he developed the skills that would define his professional life. He embarked on a distinguished career at US Steel and Varian before moving to Digital Equipment Corporation (later Compaq and then HP). Dick dedicated over three decades to the company, where he excelled as an executive in the operations, logistics, and IT services departments.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dick was passionate about sports (all things Boston) and community engagement. In his youth, he was an avid hockey and football player, continuing to play into his college years. His love for sports translated into a lifelong commitment to coaching, and for over 20 years, he dedicated his volunteer time to the Town of Danvers' Little League program. His guidance and mentorship shaped the lives of countless young athletes, instilling in them the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Dick's love for boating was also a constant throughout his life. From his early days on Lake Attitash in Amesbury, Massachusetts, to the tranquil waters of Lake Wentworth and Lake Winnipesaukee in the New Hampshire Lakes region, he found solace and joy in being on the water. His boating adventures became cherished memories for both him and his family.
However, family was Dick's rock and foundation. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, whether it was a quiet evening at home or a lively family gathering. His presence was a source of comfort and strength, and his ability to listen and offer wise counsel made him a pillar in the lives of those he held dear.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Mackie) Pike; her children, Cameron Mackie and Ashley Parziale (Matt); and his children, Kevin Pike (Melissa), Laura Sullivan (Cheryl), and Michael Sullivan (Christine); as well as siblings Diane Puopolo, David Pike, and Debra Smith; grandchildren (Trish, Matthew, Catherine, Maia, Riley, Lexie, Lilah & Abby); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will join his first wife, Mary (Pauley Sullivan) Pike, as well as his sister, Denise Lofstrand, in heaven.
We take solace in knowing that Dick's values and teachings will live on through the generations. His was a life that truly made the world a better place, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Rest in peace. Your love and legacy will never be forgotten.
