Richard Cawthorne Obituary

Richard J. Cawthorne, born March 1, 1946, of Topsfield, Massachusetts, formerly of Winthrop, Massachusetts, son of the late George Cawthorne and Grace (McNeil) Cawthorne, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 9, 2026, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Richie is survived by his devoted wife, Mary (Boncore) Cawthorne of 54 years, building a family life together filled with joy and laughter.  He was a dedicated and proud father of Andrea (Joseph) Williams of Swampscott, Richard (Andrea) Cawthorne of Winchester, and Jennifer (Philip) Kolinka of Topsfield.  He cherished his seven grandchildren Emmerson, Reese, Matthew, Tristan, Meghan, Rowan and Quinn. Loving brother of Nancy (Late Thomas) Smith, Loving Son-In-Law to Antonina (Late Phillip) Boncore, and Loving Brother-In-Law to Debbie (George) Rio.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Above all else, Richie treasured his family.  Family was his greatest joy and his favorite pastime.  He found happiness in the everyday moments that bring loved ones together.  His legacy lives on in the values he shared, the examples he set, and the memories they carry forever. Richie enjoyed a distinguished 55-year career with New York Life as a Financial Advisor.  His strong work ethic led to numerous accolades including being named a Life Member of The Million-Dollar Round Table, one of the insurance industry’s highest distinctions.

One of Richie’s lifelong passions was music.  His high school band, “Richie and the Renowns” recorded a record that his great friend, Al, continues to request be played on an Oldies Station. Music brought him comfort, pleasure and connection.  He found meaning in the things that brought people together and made life beautiful

He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for the character with which he lived.  Richie was the kind of man who gave without expecting anything in return and who cared deeply for others. His kindness touched many lives, and his influence will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
