Obituary

NANCY MADDEN, 86

January 23, 1937 – September 9, 2023

On Saturday, September 9, 2023, Nancy May (Glidden) Madden, loving wife of her late husband Peter Madden, passed away at the age of 86 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Beverly, Mass on January 23, 1937, to Ethel Corning Glidden and Roger Glidden.  Nancy grew up in Beverly, Mass and lived there during her childhood and moved to Middleton with Peter after they were married.  Nancy and Peter were high school sweethearts and enjoyed 65 years together as a married couple.  They wed on September 22, 1956, in Beverly, Mass.

Nancy loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great grandbabies. She had great fun raising and riding horses with her daughters.  She was also a devoted supporter of her husband and son’s racing team and traveling to different race tracks across New England. She cherished her time with many wonderful friends.

A loving and devoted wife, Mom and grandmother, to her grandchildren she was affectionally called “Ghee” or “Ghee Wee”.

Some of her favorite memories were made in the Florida Keys as a “snowbird” and wonderful times at her cottage on Merrymeeting Lake, surrounded by family.  Nancy loved to reminisce and laugh about the “old times”.  She also believed that you should live your life to the fullest everyday and don’t wait to do the things that are important to you.

Nancy is survived by her three children, Peter A. Madden and his wife Donna of Middleton.  Patti A. Madden and her husband Bill of Middleton and Susan M. Madden of Newburyport, and is predeceased by her husband Peter Madden who passed away in August of 2022.    Nancy and Peter have seven grandchildren, Libby Ebert, Allyson Carroll, Benjamin Besse, Max DeBoalt, Andrew (Andy) Besse, Michelle Kundicz and Gina Macera and four great grandbabies, Nathan, Myla, Colton and Jack.  Nancy is survived by her sister Dorothy Drinkwater and brother John Glidden.  She is predeceased by her sister Carolyn Gibbs, and her brothers Roy Glidden and Roger Glidden.
