Michael Madore Obituary

Michael "Clarence" Madore of S. Berwick Maine died unexpectedly on Sunday July 8, 2012. He was 91 years of age.He was the husband of the late Gertrude (Semple) Madore. Born in Salem, MA in 1920 to Maxim and Clara (Belanger) Madore, Michael was educated in Salem and graduated in 1938 from Salem High School.He was employed with Mass Electric for many years. He resided in Danvers for 30 years until his retirement when he moved to Florida with his beloved wife Gertrude. Most recently he resided with his daughter Missie and family in South Berwick, Maine. He embraced life. Most of all he loved his family. He was faithful and faith filled. He was a steadfast friend, a good neighbor and fierce cribbage partner. He never shied away from hard work, the dance floor or a party. Michael loved sports, especially baseball and softball. He played ball for many years during his retirement. Including playing on the winning team of the over 80 softball competition World Series and retired from the game with reluctance after receiving his championship team ring. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW. Mr. Madore served in the Marine Corps with pride from May 1944 thru December 1945. He was a machine gunner with the 6th Marine Division and was wounded in action during the fierce battle of Southern Okinawa in June 1945. The 6th Division was decorated with the Presidential Unit Citation for its heroism on the Island of Okinawa. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal, USN WWII Occupation Medal, USN/USMC Combat Action Ribbon, and WWII Asiatic Pacific Medal. He leaves his loving children; Michael and his wife Diane, James and his wife Pamela, Cynthia Dolbenand and her husband Arthur, Stephen and his wife Sharon, Christine "Missie" Cavanaugh and her husband Paul and David and his wife Amie. Also leaving a sister; Anne Marie (Dyer) Stanley of Beverly,13 grandchildren,6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly welcome to visitation on Thursday morning from 9am -11:30am in the Mackey Funeral Home, 22 Conant St., Danvers. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12noon in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
