Michael David Frederick

Michael David Frederick of Danvers, Massachusetts, passed away on June 30, 2026, at the age of 45, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Salem and raised in Danvers, Michael was the beloved son of David and Ellen Frederick, whose love and support for him never wavered. From an early age, Michael approached life with curiosity, warmth, and an adventurous spirit. He was drawn to the outdoors, felt most at home near the ocean, and had an easy way of making people feel welcome wherever he went.

Michael picked up tennis at a young age and played through high school, but he was never one to stay still for long. Skateboarding came next, then snowboarding, and later surfing, which became one of the great passions of his life. As a teenager, he spent countless days mountain biking alongside his cousin Sean Byrne. Whether on a tennis court, a wooded trail, or riding a wave, Michael moved with a balance and ease that was simply his own. His love of the ocean eventually carried him from the beaches of New England to Florida and, ultimately, to Hawaii—a place whose beauty, spirit, and sense of peace resonated deeply with him.

Michael graduated from Danvers High School with the Class of 1999 before continuing his education at North Shore Community College and UMass Boston, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in management. Later, he discovered the work that truly spoke to him through culinary training at Johnson & Wales University and the New England Culinary Institute. In the kitchen, Michael found more than a career—he found his creative voice. Cooking became his way of expressing himself, caring for others, and bringing people together. Food, for Michael, was never just food. It was how he said, "I love you."

Michael carried a warmth that drew people in. Whether in downtown Salem, in a busy kitchen, or watching the sunset on the shores of Oahu, he had a gentle, easygoing presence that made ordinary moments feel lighter. Throughout his life, he formed deep and meaningful friendships—in school, at work, among neighbors, and through the many circles he became part of. As the years passed, some of those friendships naturally changed or drifted, but the love and memories they created together remained. To everyone who knew and loved Michael at any point along the way: thank you for being part of his story. You are remembered, and so is he.

Michael is survived by his mother, Ellen Frederick; his sister, Lindsay Semas, and brother-in-law, John Semas; his niece and nephew, Audrey Semas and Augustus Semas, of Norfolk, Massachusetts; and his cousin, surrogate godfather, and as close to a brother as one could ask for, Sean Byrne, and his family, of West Newbury, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his father, David Frederick, of Danvers, Massachusetts.

May Michael be remembered for his generous heart, his adventurous spirit, his creativity in the kitchen, and the peace he found by the ocean.
