Mary Pierce Obituary

Mary E. "Sis Lynch" Pierce, a beacon of enduring love and faith, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024, in Peabody, MA. Born on August 31, 1930, in Winthrop, MA, Mary's life was a testament to the joy and strength found in family, faith, and the simple pleasures of life.

Mary's journey began as the cherished daughter of her loving parents in Winthrop, where she embraced life with open arms. Mary was a proud graduate of Mount St. Joseph's Academy in Boston. She furthered her skills with a secretarial certificate that would serve her well in her early professional years. Mary was employed at the City of Boston Courthouse before getting married and raising a family. In the 1990’s she returned to work at the Pepperidge Farm Thrift Store in Middleton, MA. Mary retired from Pepperidge Farm after 20 years of friendly customer service. Her colleagues knew her as a woman of integrity and warmth, who brought both professionalism and a personal touch to her work. She enjoyed meeting new people and serving her community.

In her personal life, Mary was the heart of her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Gerard J. Pierce, and together they nurtured a family filled with love and laughter. Though she faced the sorrow of losing her beloved husband and her son Gerard J. (GJ) Pierce Jr., her spirit never wavered. She found strength in her children William, Christopher, Mary Ellen Fraser, David, Stephen, and Joanne Kelly, who will forever cherish her memory and the lessons she imparted.

Mary's legacy continued to blossom with her grandchildren—Casey Burkinshaw and Danielle, Alyssa and Matthew, Dana and Nicholas, Emily and Sarah, Andrew, Jonathan and Erica, Deacon and Marcus Kelly. She embraced the role of 'Gigi' with her five great-grandchildren, a name that embodied the gentleness and joy she brought into their lives.

A woman of deep faith, Mary's optimism shone brightly, touching all who knew her. Her loving nature was the cornerstone of her existence, and her faith-filled life was a source of inspiration to her family and friends. Mary's optimism was not just a trait but a choice she made every day, coloring her world with hope and positivity.

Mary's interests were as vibrant as her personality. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, which she proudly had a personal connection to. Her love for musical theater was matched only by her passion for travel. Mary's adventures took her to the breathtaking sights of Niagara Falls, the historic streets of San Francisco, and the rolling landscapes of Ireland and Italy. She found paradise in Hawaii and explored the rich culture of Portugal. Closer to home, she delighted in long car rides up the New England coast, from the rocky shores of Gloucester to the sandy beaches of Kennebunkport.

Mary's life was a melody of joyous moments and loving memories. Her presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to Mary E. "Sis Lynch" Pierce, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that will continue to guide us from above. Her memory will be eternally etched in the hearts of her family and friends, and her spirit will live on in the love she shared so generously.

We take solace in the knowledge that Mary's journey has not ended but merely transformed as she is reunited with her beloved Gerard and GJ in eternal peace. Her story of love, faith, and optimism will be recounted for generations, a lasting legacy of a life that was truly well-lived.

The Pierce Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to staff at The Jeffrey and Susan Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody, MA. The care and compassion that our mom received for the 3 years that she resided there was outstanding. Our family is forever grateful.
