Marion (Serback) Ceremsak of Hamilton and most recently of Ipswich passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023 at age 93. Beloved wife of 62 years of the late Richard J. Ceremsak, she is survived by their daughters: Judith King and her husband Mark of Essex; Jane Roundy and her husband Glenn of Hamilton; and Lynda Ceremsak and her husband George Davitt of Wellesley. Marion was the proud grandmother of Amanda McBee (Wilson), Tucker Roundy, Sarah Pawlowski (Colin), Caroline Davitt and Sam Davitt. She was also “great-grandMarion” to Dalton and Frederick McBee. She was predeceased by her four sisters, Alice, Sophie, Ida, and Stella.
Born in Ewing Township NJ, daughter of Paul and Sophie (Cesloski) Serback, Marion graduated from the
Mercer Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She enjoyed a long career as a nurse - initially in New Jersey
and then in Massachusetts, where she and Richard raised their children. Her caregiving did not end at the
hospital door. Nurturing others was simply her nature. Whether the town needed a Girl Scout troop leader or
the summer camp needed a nurse, Marion volunteered so her daughters and others could have these
experiences. She brought her incredible strength, energy, can-do attitude and creativity to volunteering with
the Visiting Nurse Association, League of Women Voters, Friends of the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library
and Acord Food Pantry. Marion found joy, and lifelong friends, and taught her children and grandchildren
the importance of service to others by example.
Marion’s lifelong passions were gardening and cooking. She was happiest outside, hands in the dirt, creating
and maintaining her perennial and vegetable gardens. She loved exploring international and regional
cuisines. Later in life, Marion developed a love of international travel, journeying throughout Europe and to
China, Russia and Belarus. Finally, Marion enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
We wish to thank the wonderful staff at The Residence at Riverbend for the care given and compassion
shown to our mother.
A celebration of Marion’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Care Dimensions, the North Shore hospice
organization that wisely and lovingly guided Marion, Richard and family on our most difficult journeys.
