Margery Foster Obituary

Margery L Foster (Paine), of Sharon, MA passed peacefully, surrounded by her family on October 15. Margery will be reunited with her great love and favorite dance partner, her husband, Douglas George Foster, her beloved daughters, Jill and Amy, Foster her life-long friends; her siblings Doris  Hatch (Paine) and Warren Foster. She will be embraced by her wonderful parents Walter and Lois (Farenholt) Paine who were taken too soon in her young life and all her other loved family members and dear friends.

She will be dearly missed, but always remembered by her daughter, Beth, son-in-law, Gerardo, grandchildren, Marco and Enrico, niece Lois and her grandnieces, Heather and Holly.

Her cousins Dorothy (Farenholt) Holt, Janice Sweeney and Lucille Shea brought her wonderful memories and much love.

Margery was born in East Walpole and graduated from Hyde Park High School. She attended Providence – Barrington Bible College and worked at Peoples Savings Bank for many years, it was at the bank where she met many of her lifelong cherished friends.  She was an active member of the Junior Woman’s Club and the Savings Bank Association of Massachusetts. She stopped working when she decided to become the CEO of her home (her words).

She raised three daughters and taught them that life will not always be full of roses so handle the thorns with strength, love, grace and faith - the roses will be sweeter.  Be thankful for them and the lessons you learned.

Margery was instrumental in helping her husband excel in a celebrated career in the Boston Public school System, including Headmaster of the Jeremiah Burke High School during the busing era, Boston Latin School, Northeastern University and Catholic Memorial Highschool.

Margery will be cherished for reminding us that the flowers that grow in your backyard are the most beautiful, that simplicity is elegance, that spending time in the presence of trees and nature is magical and gives you energy. “When you feel powerless go to the ocean,  go look at some art and “just put on a little lipstick”.  “Always be sincere and always look for the good in others, because as COCO said, Elegance is when the inside is as beautiful as on the outside.”

Margery could have an engaging conversation with anyone because she was a compassionate listener and truly interested in knowing you even if it was only for a brief moment. She listened more than she spoke and could communicate with the subtle shift of her eyebrow.

She was happiest at an Art museum, Loved the Boston Pops and New England Sports Teams, especially the Celtics. She enjoyed her family most of all especially when they were all at the beach gazing at the ocean. She was the epitome of grace, dignity, tenacity, resilience and elegance with a bit of mischief mixed in.
