Kathleen A. Mitchell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on December 20, 2022.  She was the daughter of Margaret (Cameron) and Murdoch MacPherson, and the eldest of eight siblings. She grew up in Jamaica Plain, MA.  After graduating high school, Mom worked for many years at the New England Telephone Company, later AT&T, as a telephone operator. It was during this time that Mom and her friends started vacationing on Cape Cod and in Florida. Mom had a large group of very close friends. It was through her friend Buddy Clark that she met our Dad, Jim Mitchell. Mom and Dad were married in 1956 and had 6 children. Over the years, they lived in Norwood, MA, New Britain, CT, and finally settled in Boxford, MA where they lived for over 34 years. They spent many happy, fun-filled summers on Cape Cod with family, life-long friends, and their families. Mom and Dad loved to travel with their friends, spending many long nights planning their next adventure.  Mom loved to read and work her puzzles.  She was also an avid golfer and a talented artist.  In later years, Mom split her time between her homes on Cape Cod and in Florida, always looking forward to the change of pace and scenery each place brought. 

Mom is survived by four of her children, James and his wife Lacey, Keith and his wife Nancy, Mary and her husband Chris, her daughter Kim, and her son-in-law Thom, as well as her sisters Laura, Isabel and Margi. She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, James (2005), her daughter Pamela (2018), and baby John (1962).  She was also blessed with many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved very much. 

Please join us for visiting hours on Thursday, December 29th, between 9:30am - 11:30am at St. Adelaide's Church, 708 Lowell Street, Peabody, MA.  A funeral mass will follow immediately at 11:30am.  After mass, internment will be at 2:00pm at Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West Street, Braintree, MA (please meet at the cemetery office).
