Joseph H. Previte

Joseph H. Previte, 83, of East Boston and Peabody, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Patricia, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his two children, Amy Roy and Michael Previte, his son-in-law, John Roy, and his daughter-in-law, Rose Previte. He was the proud grandfather of four cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Trevor, and Phineas Roy, and Atticus Previte. He also leaves his brother, John Previte, Jr., and his sister, Grace Joanne Meo, and her husband Peter, and several nieces and nephews.

Raised in East Boston, Joe was a graduate of Boston College, where he also received his MBA. His graduate thesis focused on Marketing, Management, and the Computer. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal.

Joe and his family made their home in Peabody for fifty-seven years, where they were fortunate to have wonderful, caring neighbors who became an important part of their lives.

Joe began his professional career with the Gillette Corporation, where he spent five years in consumer marketing. He was recognized for his initiative, independence, and ability to take on new challenges. He subsequently spent five years in financial marketing with Continental Mortgage Investors before establishing his own commercial real estate brokerage company in 1975, Independence Realty Company, Inc.

Joe built his career through hard work, determination, and a lifelong commitment to learning. He continued to take courses in land use, planning, and development, expanding his knowledge and expertise throughout his career. Independence Realty Company became involved in numerous Boston, suburban, and industrial R&D leases. Joe ultimately enjoyed a forty-three-year career as a commercial real estate broker in Boston.

In his leisure time, Joe treasured being with his family and friends at Newfound Lake in New Hampshire. He was an avid golfer and a passionate skier, and he always had a smile on his face when he was at the helm of his boat, enjoying the lake and the people he loved.

Joe will be remembered for his independence, curiosity, generosity, dedication to his family, and his willingness to become involved and make things better. Above all, he cherished his family, his friends, and the many relationships he built throughout his life.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday, August 16th, from 2:00–4:30 p.m. at Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St. (Route 114), Middleton, MA.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 17th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell Street, West Peabody. All are asked to meet directly at the church.
