John (Jake) Swindell passed away on Saturday Aug 5, 2023, at the age of 83, at home with his daughters by his side.
John born in Beverly Ma was the son of Harry Swindell and Irene (Pierce) Swindell. John spent most of his childhood in Topsfield MA. John was one of six children, five brothers and one sister. John attended the public school system and graduated from Masco in 1960. John went right to work after high school working to help support his family. He married and started his own family.
John and family resided in Danvers and most of his life spending more than 55 years working for the Town of Danvers, including Police Department, Public-School Department being the first custodian at the Smith School, Danvers Electric Department and after retirement went back to the Public School system to finish as a crossing guard.
John’s family was very important to him, and enjoyed being with his girls and then grandchildren as life went on, spending dinners together at least once a week for as long as he could then the kids grew up. John spent time traveling with the kids as well as his siblings and their spouses on several cruises. John loved his grandmother, Lucielle Leach, which he had the privilege of knowing her much of his life and consistently visited her in the nursing home. John also loved his dear aunt Emma Hill in Maine, she is gone now, at the age of 104, but made sure he said goodbye at her funeral. Traveled to Florida to visit his oldest brother and sister-in-law. Enjoyed having coffee with Terri Brown in many of the local places within Danvers.
John, being a Topsfield resident, worked numerous jobs and positions for several years at the Topsfield Fair.
John is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Trefrey and husband Alan, Diane Chigas and her husband Thomas. Two grandchildren, grandson Jacob Chigas and partner Angela Colletti, granddaughter Devin Chigas. Great grandson Caleb Chigas. Best friend Terri Brown. Surviving siblings, brother Jerry Swindell and wife Joanne, beloved and only sister Terrie Schaffer and her husband Roger, and Ex Wife Nancy Lucas. John is predeceased by parents Harry and Irene, brothers Jim, Joe and Spike (Paul).
There will be a wake for John at Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St. (rt. 114) Middleton, MA on Thursday August 10 from 4 to 7 pm. The graveside burial will be Friday August 11, at 10am in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers MA. Please meet directly at the Cemetery if attending.
