John Charles Stewart

Bradford, MA - August 24, 1963 - October 2, 2022

Born at Salem Hospital, Salem, Massachusetts.  The first of three children of William and Deanna Stewart, our brother, son, friend, father, husband, teacher has gone to heaven to be welcomed by his beloved Grammy and many others who are now celebrating his homecoming!

John leaves behind his mom and dad, Dr. William and Deanna Stewart of Topsfield, MA, his wife, Jocelyn Stewart of Haverhill, MA, his son Benjamin of Cathedral City, California, and his Siblings, Mark Stewart and his wife Diane of Malden, MA, and Bethany Stewart Luti and her husband Col. Brian Luti of Burke, VA

Niece Zelda Stewart, and Nephews Rowan and Henry Luty.

John was educated well as a youth, having graduated from Deerfield Academy and then earning his bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College, Class of 1985.

John’s studies led to one of his lifelong passions and expertise on the American Battle Between the States and the nuances of that engagement.

He truly loved history, was an avid reader and a lifelong learner!

John became an educator (like his mom!).  John taught primarily in Methuen, MA, there he took on many tasks and assignments.  He excelled in gaining rapport with his students and in creating an enjoyable classroom “Home” for all.

Mr. Stewart taught at Methuen High School, Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative (GLEC), among other positions he held, he also tutored in the prison system.  He never shied away from what others might consider “difficult jobs.”

John Stewart was truly a scholar and a philosopher at heart. His life was not an easy one, but he lived it well and did his best as most of us do.  We will wish John Stewart, “Farewell and Following Seas.” in his next grand journey and may he always have a crossword puzzle at hand ready to complete…
