Joan Irene (Smith) Crockford passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at the age of 92 in Powder Springs, GA. Born on December 15, 1932, in Chelsea, MA, Joan lived a life marked by an unbridled spirit, deep familial bonds, and an enduring Catholic faith.
Joan was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Irene Smith. She grew up in Saugus, MA, along with her siblings, Brian Smith and Marilyn Pelosi of Florida, and her brothers Robert Smith and Wayne Smith who predeceased her.
The love story of Joan and her husband the late Ronald Crockford was one that inspired all who knew them. Their long marriage was a testament to their devotion and mutual support of one another. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Denise Hatabian of Powder Springs, GA and Diane Belleville of Peabody, MA.
Her role as Meme to her grandchildren, Michael and Melissa Hatabian and Troy Belleville was one of her greatest joys. She instilled in them the values of family, faith, and determination. Her love and unconditional support have left an indelible mark on their lives.
A woman of deep Catholic faith, Joan's commitment to her beliefs was evident in her daily life. She was an unwavering source of love and spiritual inspiration to her family.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Be it a rousing game of whist, a competitive game of cribbage, or trips to the casino where she enjoyed playing her favorite table game, Let It Ride.
Her life was a journey that touched many hearts, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Her family is grateful to all the caregivers in Joan’s life, as they brought companionship and comfort to her in her later years.
Joan's departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her enduring spirit will forever be a guiding light to her loved ones. Her memory will be treasured, and she will be deeply missed by all.
