Joan Lucille Comeau (Rafferty / Gobron) lived a life of radiant optimism and love. Born in Boston on August 11, 1936, Joan was raised in Revere and lived in Saugus. Joan passed away peacefully, surrounded by her three children and close loved ones, at Andover Manor on March 17, 2025, at the age of 88, Joan lived a life marked by unwavering devotion to family, a compassionate nursing career, and an infectious zest for life.
Joan, a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, is survived by her daughters, Kathaleen J. Mello Gobron, and Joanmichelle “Shellie” Comeau Wheeler and her son, Mark Rafferty. Her sisters Mae Noonan and Barbara A. Wiegman. Her legacy continues to flourish through her cherished grandchildren, Teresa, Kristen, Michael, Mackenzie, Max, and Charlotte Lucille, and great-grandchildren, John Wesley, Ivan, Elyas, Madiha and Lilly, who will carry forth her spirit of kindness and generosity. As a single mom, Joan not only built a life filled with love and laughter but also achieved the remarkable feat of owning and fully paying off her home, a testament to her financial acumen and tenacity.
Armed with a college degree in nursing, her Registered Nursing License, and many years of experience, Joan embraced her vocation with genuine passion, touching countless lives with her healing hands and comforting words. Her tireless dedication allowed her to retire early, giving her the freedom to fully enjoy the many simple pleasures in life. Joan’s smile and laugh were infectious. She found great joy in walking, connecting with friends, and creating treasured memories at family gatherings. Her love for driving and vacationing spoke of a spirit that yearned for exploration and celebrated the beauty of the world around her, hobbies that were not just pastimes, but extensions of her vibrant, loving soul.
Joan’s friendly demeanor and boundless affection drew people to her. Her faith-filled heart guided her through life’s challenges and triumphs, leaving behind a legacy that is not merely one of personal success, but a beacon of hope for all who knew her. Her story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and is not one of an ending, but a continuous ripple of positivity that will resonate in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Monday March 24, from 5-7pm at Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St. Rt 114, Middleton, MA. Her mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday ay 10 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St. Saugus, MA if attending mass please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St. Peabody, MA.
