Jim Pat Thornton, 85 of Peabody, MA formally of Santa Fe, NM passed away February 14, 2023. He was born July 13, 1937 in Pecos, Texas to Bluford Thornton and Mary Wilson Thornton.

Jim graduated from New Mexico State University and then served 2 years in the US Army. On his return he went on to work for the Department of Ag, Soil Conservation Service for 32 years. Most of those years were in Colorado, before retiring to Santa Fe.

Jim and Mary Ann (Thurston) had been married for 56 years. He was an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, son Terry Thornton of Kerrville, TX , daughter Melissa Stankus and husband Glen Stankus of Middleton, MA and 6 Grand Children and 7 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by two of his siblings Gene Thornton and Genora (Thornton) Cannon and many nieces and nephews.  

Celebration of life and Interment will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico National Cemetery at a later date.
