Janice E Corbett
Obituary
Janice Corbett, age 81, passed away from Parkinson’s Disease, peacefully on July 26th, 2025.
Jan was predeceased by her dear friend and roommate for many years, Carmen. She is survived by her sister, Joan Corea, her niece and nephew, Thaddeus and Liana Corea and her many, many friends.
Jan’s first love was her nursing career. A Mass General Hospital graduate, she practiced in many settings in New York City and in Boston at her beloved MGH. She made many lifelong friends there, all of whom she has continued to stay in contact with. Even as her condition worsened, these friends have continued to visit and help her in any way they can.
She was passionate with her affection for animals and always welcomed dogs and cats into her home. She particularly loved Westies and her four legged children, Sam, Patsy, Wyeth and Stanley, each of whom predeceased her.
She was also known for her love of gourmet cooking and fine dining. She was an outstanding cook as well as hostess, and filled her home with friends for holidays as well as any day. Her guests enjoyed her extravagant meals as well as her friendship.
Holidays were always special to Jan. She loved decorating both inside and outside her home and when she needed to downsize from her farmhouse in Middleton, took many or her decorations with her to independent and then assisted living, decorating her apartment, the outside hallway and her outdoor porch.
Jan was also a passionate sports fan, following all the Boston teams: Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots and hated to miss any of their games. Fellow sports enthusiasts were always rewarded with T-shirts and other types of memorabilia with the team’s logo. She was generous to a fault, giving all sorts of gifts to her friends as well as delivering beautifully prepared meals to their homes, often leaving them at the front door, ringing the doorbell and quickly returning to her car to escape before her presence was known.
Jan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease about a decade ago and fought it with every inch of determination and nursing knowledge. It is the disease that finally took her life. But even with her growing disability and need for help with the tiniest of functions, she made friends with her caregivers who joined her cadre of friends who loved and admired her and happy spirit. She will be sorely missed.
Jan wished to have no funeral service or formal recognition of her amazing life, but we will be holding a Celebration of her Life in the near future.
She would appreciate any donations in her memory to go to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, https://support.apdaparkinson.org or to the MA SPCA of Boston, https://support.mspca.org. (see the links below:)
