James “Bernard” Stevens, passed away at the age of 82 in Lakenheath, England, on September 18, 2024. He was born on February 24, 1942, in Winchester, Massachusetts, along with his two triplet brothers, John “Bennett” Stevens and Joseph “Bert” Stevens. He was a man known for his friendly demeanor and his unique sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew him.
Bernard was predeceased by his loving parents, Bert B. Stevens and Margaret L. (Bennett) Stevens of Winchester, MA., and his wife of 25 years, Ann (Boxall) Stevens, his brothers John “Bennett” Stevens, Paul R. Stevens, his sisters Nancy (Stevens) Mulcahy, Alice (Stevens) Amero, and brothers-in-law Lou Perrino and Al Mulcahy.
He is survived by his brother Joseph “Bert” Stevens, sister Linda (Stevens) Perrino, brother-in- law Sonny Amero and his sisters-in-law Diane Stevens, Priscilla Stevens and Joy Stevens. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Bernard will also be missed by his many friends in England, particularly his very devoted and cherished friends Robert (RED) Skelton and his wife, Ellie.
He graduated from Winchester High School, where he formed friendships and values that would last him a lifetime. His commitment and dedication to his country was evident as he joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduation and proudly served until he retired as an E-7 in 1986. Bernard continued to stay connected to the service community, working at the RAF Bowling Alley on the Air Force Base, where his camaraderie and commitment to service members were deeply appreciated.
Bernard was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan, watching the games whenever he could. He enjoyed the game of golf, playing cards (especially Hearts and Cribbage) and he was a regular participant in the Football Pool, where his spirited competitiveness and friendly banter were a staple. Bernard was happiest when he was spending time with family. These moments, filled with laughter and storytelling, were the ones he cherished the most.
Bernard's journey through life was one of laughter, joy, and genuine connection with those around him. His legacy of warmth and kindness will live on through the stories told by those who knew him best. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but the memories he leaves behind will always be treasured.
