Emilio Salvador, had a sudden heart attack on September 14 while working at Harvard University. He was rushed by ambulance to Mount Auburn Hospital where after a brief period of medical intervention he passed away peacefully. He was 65 years old.
Emilio leaves behind his heartbroken family. His wife to whom he was devoted, Deidre Dowling de Salvador. His son Aedan Antonio Salvador who was the pride and joy of his life. His mother Eva Salvador. His siblings Ana Chavez (and her husband Luis Chavez), Neftali Salvador (and his wife Elisabeth) and Juana Cabrera Salvador (and her husband Daniel Nieto). He also leaves behind innumerable nieces and nephews all of whom will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his father Demetrio Antonio Cabrera.
Emilo was born in Loma Larga La Union, El Salvador and had recently taken a father-son trip back to his beloved homeland where he planned to spend more time in his upcoming retirement. Emilio grew up during El Salvador’s Civil War when colleges were closed down and masses were said by Monsignor Romero (now Saint Oscar Romero) whom Emilio had the privilege of hearing preach. Despite these hardships, Emilio managed to obtain an Associates degree from the Institute of Technology of Central America before immigrating to the United States. In the United States, Emilio first made a career for himself as an electrician and an IBEW (Local 103) member. He continued his education at Wentworth College where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Systems Engineering. He was an employee of Harvard University for nearly 20 years from which he had been planning to retire this February. Yet, nothing made Emilio happier than being with his family! Whether visiting Aedan when he studied abroad (first in Spain then London) or cheering Aedan on from the sidelines of a soccer game (from elementary school-college) Emilio was ever the proud papi! Emilio’s proudest moments were watching Aedan graduate from Babson College and moving him to New York to start his career in finance last spring. Emilio was intelligent and ambitious as well as warm and kind.He had a mischievous sense of humor and enjoyed his own jokes (whether or not anyone else got them)!
He was passionate about taking care of his family and worked relentlessly for their well-being. We are devastated by his loss yet know if anyone deserves a rest it’s Emilio. We take comfort in knowing he is resting in heavenly peace.
