With a blend of reflection and affection, we announce the passing of Edwin "Ed" Saunders on December 2, 2023, in Winter Haven, FL, at the age of 79. Born on February 16, 1944 in Beverly, MA to Francis and Odessa Saunders, Ed's life was a tapestry of highs and lows, challenges and achievements, marked by a genuine love for his family and a commitment to helping others.
Growing up on Goat Hill in a large family with eleven siblings, Ed's early life was filled with its share of tumult and camaraderie. These formative years, with all their complexities, shaped Ed into a person who knew life's rough edges yet found ways to connect with others in meaningful ways.
Ed's relationship with his two children, David Saunders and Marlie Martin, and seven grandchildren was a source of joy and pride for him, and the affection he had for his family was clear and heartfelt.
He was a longtime friend of Bill W who found great joy in helping others find the joy of sobriety. His years of involvement in AA were about more than just his journey; they were about the connections he made and the support he provided to others wrestling with similar challenges. His contributions to the community, while not always perfect, were sincere and appreciated by those he helped.
As we bid farewell to Ed, we remember a man who deeply loved his family and did the best he could to help those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
