Douglas A. Bryant, “Doug”, of Middleton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 10th, 2022.
Doug is survived by his loving daughters, Susan Bryant of Gloucester and Maureen McPherson of Danvers. Cherished grandfather of David Sochat and his wife Debra of Winchester, Amanda Sochat Oliveira and her husband Luciano of Danvers. Loving Great Grandfather of Alexandra, Christian, Sebastian, Jacob and Daniella Sochat. Along with several nieces and nephews and special friend Karen Harribine.
Born in Newburyport on August 23, 1926, he later resided in Madison, New Hampshire, where he joined the Navy in 1943 and served on the Submarine U.S.S. Sea Dog SS401 during World War II. He also served on the submarines, U.S.S. Spinax, Sea Owl, Entemedor and Crevale after World War II.
 Doug also was a qualified First Class Navy Deep Sea Diver and a qualified Scuba Diver and served a tour of duty at the Submarine Escape Training Tank at the Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut, where he taught submarine escape and scuba diving. His last tour of duty was on the Submarine “Sea Dog” (the same submarine he served on during WWII), which served as Submarine Division I-II Station Ship at the Naval Reserve Training Center, Derby Wharf, Salem, MA, where he was an instructor for Submarine Naval Reserve Personnel.
Doug was a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He also participated in Secret Patrols during the Cold War Period on submarines.
Doug retired from the U.S. Navy in 1967 with the rank of Senior Chief Engine Man (E8) with over 24 years of service to his country.
After his Naval service, Doug was employed at several companies, including Varian Associates of Beverly and at Danvers State Hospital (Hogan Regional Center) where he worked at the Power Plant as a High Pressure Boiler Operator from which he retired in 1998.
 Doug was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W, The Fleet Reserve Association and a life member of both “The Submarine Veterans of World War II” and “The Submarine Veterans Inc.


Visiting hours on Tuesday from 5pm-8pm at Mackey Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., Rt. 114, Middleton, MA.  His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30am at the Funeral Home followed by burial with military honors at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
