Delano "Del" Trott Obituary

Delano Brookings Trott, known affectionately as Del to his friends and colleagues, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at the age of 82 in Reading, Massachusetts. Born on October 16, 1942, in Miami, Florida, Del's vibrant spirit and boundless curiosity propelled him through a life rich in accomplishment and adventure.

Del's exceptional intellect and creative spirit led him to pursue a degree in Engineering at the prestigious California Institute of Technology, followed by further studies at Boston University. His education laid the foundation for what would become a long career in engineering.

Del combined his engineering expertise with his passion for auto racing to co-found Autodynamics, a race car manufacturing company that quickly became synonymous with excellence and cutting-edge design in the auto racing industry. During his time at Autodynamics, he worked as the company’s Chief Engineer on various projects. Del later joined Beringer in Marblehead before founding Extek, a plastics processing company that would innovate the industry. Over the years, Del was honored with 7 patents, each a testament to his relentless pursuit of knowledge and his ability to turn complex ideas into tangible solutions

Beyond his professional realm, Del was a man of diverse interests, each pursued with the same passion and dedication that characterized his work. Auto racing was not just a business for Del; it was a love affair with speed and precision that thrilled him to his core. Sailing was another endeavor that captured his heart, allowing him to embrace the challenges of the sea with a sailor's skill and a navigator's precision. He spent his later years honing his skills in the delicate art of ship modeling, crafting miniature vessels that were marvels of detail and craftsmanship and working on his 1948 MG TC.

Del's sense of humor was as legendary as his intellect. His quick wit and funny anecdotes were a source of joy for all who met him. He had a unique way of seeing the world that brought lightness to even the most complicated problems.

Del is survived by his loving wife, Jane, his daughters, Catherine and Jennie (Finley), his grandchildren Brian, Bart, Brecken, and Brook, and 7 Great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Adam.

As we bid farewell to Delano Brookings Trott, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, marked by achievements and enriched by the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
