David Calder Reynolds, known to friends and family as Dave, brought laughter and warmth to the world for 76 years. Born on June 5, 1947, in Beverly, Massachusetts, Dave's journey came to a peaceful end on May 9, 2024, in Middleton, where he was the unofficial "Mayor" and everyone's favorite plumber.
Dave was the beloved patriarch of the Reynolds clan, a family that knew the true value of humor and togetherness. Though he now joins his late parents, William and Evelyn Reynolds, his sister Jean, and brothers Bill and Don in eternal rest, his legacy of laughter lives on through his loving wife Wendy, his son David and daughter-in-law Carla, his daughter Kelli and son-in-law Eric, his sister-in-law’s Luanne Smith & Sylvia Reynolds and his adored grandchildren Liam, Isabella, Logan, and Maggie, who knew him best as "Grampy."
A proud Navy veteran from the Vietnam war, Dave channeled his discipline and dedication into his career as the owner of Reynolds Plumbing & Heating for nearly two decades. But his leadership skills didn't stop at leaky faucets; he was also the President of Middleton Little League, coaching kids, cracking jokes, and treating everyone to ice cream at Richardson’s after a trip in the back of the plumbing truck.
Dave's educational journey may have started at Danvers High School, but his real lessons came from the school of life, where he graduated with a Master's Plumbers License and a PhD in making people smile.
Grampy cultivated beauty in his garden and on the green, where his flowers bloomed as brightly as his golf game. True to his Massachusetts roots, Dave was a die-hard Bruins fan, and you could bet that if the game was on, he was there in front of the TV, cheering louder than the crowd at the Garden. The joy of his life, however, was his grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye and the recipients of his boundless love and affection. And let’s not forget about his furry friends Charlie, Annie, & Lola who were there by his side, or at least not too far from his snacks.
Dave was the kind of man who could find the silver lining in any cloud, even celebrating the Red Sox's historic win in 2004 with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for a child on Christmas morning. His selfless and generous nature was the glue that held his family and community together, always putting others before himself and ensuring that every moment was filled with laughter.
Words that best describe Dave are funny, generous, and selfless—a trio of traits that made him the life of every party. He had the rare ability to turn a room full of strangers into a gathering of friends, and his absence will be felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Let's remember that the best way to honor his memory is to live as he did—with a generous spirit, a selfless heart, and a joke always at the ready.
Dave leaves us with a smile on our faces and a chuckle in our throats. Here's to Dave Reynolds, a man who taught us that the true measure of life is not in years, but in the number of smiles we leave behind.
