David Bruce MacGregor, Dave to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on July 5, 1947, in Peabody, Massachusetts, he grew up in Peabody where he excelled at hockey and was the MVP of his high school team. He raised his family in Middleton, where he lived for fifty years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and his passing has left a void in the hearts of many.
Dave was married to his beloved wife Linda of 53 years, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and adventure. He is survived by a loving family that includes his son Douglas and wife Shelley of New Hampshire, daughter Tara and husband Matt of Massachusetts, son Michael and wife Amy of Florida, and his cherished grandchildren William, Gweynth, Timothy, Nathaniel, Samuel, Hannah, Ethan, and Charlotte. Dave also leaves behind his brothers, Brad and his wife Eileen of Massachusetts, Paul and his wife Karen of South Carolina, his sister in law Laura and her husband David of New Hampshire and many adoring nieces and nephews.
A proud veteran of the Massachusetts National Guard, Dave served his country with honor. He worked at Coca-Cola for over forty years and they could not have found a more dedicated and loyal employee. Dave was known for his friendly demeanor and he had a smile for everyone he encountered. In later years he was a substitute teacher at Peabody High where the students affectionately called him “Mr. Friday”.
Those who knew Dave will remember him for his love of laughter. No joke was off limits and there was never a wrong time to laugh. Perhaps his greatest gift to his family and the world was his sense of humor. Golf and skiing were among his favorite activities, both of which he excelled at with an effortless joy. The annual family ski trips to North Conway were legendary and will not to be forgotten. Dave's love for travel was ignited by his wife Linda. Family trips to Lake Winnepesaukee and Point Sebago were followed by trips to the Caribbean, Alaska, Italy and Ireland with their many friends.
As we remember Dave, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with laughter, love, and kindness. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on through the lives he touched. Dave's journey may have come to an end, but his spirit remains a guiding light for his family, friends, and all who knew him.
In his final years, Dave faced the challenges of Alzheimer's with courage. Even in the face of that terrible disease, he always had a smile for his visitors and caregivers. And it could not stop his love for his devoted wife Linda, who stayed with him to the very end. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and reunited with so many of his aunts, uncles, cousins who went before him, as well as his parents Bunky and Vera.
David Bruce MacGregor's life was a testament to the power of humor, kindness, and friendship. As we bid him farewell, we hold onto the cherished memories and the joy he brought into our lives. May he rest in peace, and know that there is never a wrong time for smiles and laughter.
