David L. Gerlach, known affectionately as Dave by his friends and family, passed away on February 16, 2026 at the age of 82, in Burlington, Massachusetts, due to pneumonia. Born on April 25, 1943 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Dave's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his community.
Dave's journey began as a loving boy in Green Bay, where his character was shaped by the values of hard work and community service. After graduating from Our Lady of Premontre high school, he pursued higher education at Lowell (Tech) University in Lowell, MA, where he earned an Associate’s degree in Nuclear Physics. His educational achievements laid the foundation for a distinguished career and a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
A proud veteran, Dave served in the United States Army for six years, a period that instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and duty. Upon his return to civilian life, he embarked on a successful career at Pfizer Pharmaceutical, where he dedicated many years before retiring in 2005. His work ethic and dedication to his profession were unparalleled, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Dave's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life. He was an active participant at the Middleton Food Pantry, where he volunteered many years, contributing his time and energy to those in need right up until the time of his passing. His generosity and compassion were cornerstones of his character, and his impact on the community was profound.
In addition to his professional and charitable endeavors, Dave was deeply involved in many Masonic organizations. As Past Master of Amity Lodge and Past High Priest of Holten Royal Arch Chapter in Danvers, MA, Dave’s leadership and fellowship were cherished by his fellow Masons. His involvement with several other Masonic organizations in Massachusetts was marked by his commitment to the values of brotherhood, integrity, and personal growth.
Dave's Catholic faith was a guiding light throughout his life, providing him with strength and comfort. He lived his faith through his actions, always striving to embody the principles of love and charity in his interactions with others.
Above all, Dave was a devoted husband to his wife, Pam, for 62 remarkable years. Together, they built a family founded on love, respect, and joy. He was a cherished Dad to his daughters, Janet Horyn and her partner Mark Ward, Sheryl Gerlach, and his son Michael Gerlach and his wife Lois. Dave's role as Papa to his grandchildren, Jillian Horyn, Michaella Ward, Rebecca and Nicole Gerlach, and grandsons Jonathan Horyn and Christopher Ward, was filled with pride and affection. He also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Eriss Lakin. His family was truly his village, and he was the heart and soul of that close-knit community.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dave's love for the Green Bay Packers was legendary. His loyalty to his hometown team never wavered, even when they faced the New England Patriots. His passion for the game was just one of the many ways he connected with friends and family, sharing in the highs and lows of each season.
David L. Gerlach will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his service to his country, and his dedication to his community. His legacy is one of kindness, leadership, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. Dave's life was a beacon of how to live with honor, compassion, and a sense of duty that will continue to inspire generations to come. He was previously deceased by his Sister’s Nancy, Carolyn, and Kathryn. His brother Robert. He is survived by Sisters Anne, Jo, and Jane. Brothers, Tom, Jim and Tim.
