Clara Jean (Veator) Lake, known affectionately as Babe by all who knew her, passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 23, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on March 27, 1928, in Gloucester, MA, Clara lived a full and vibrant life, characterized by her loving nature, generosity, and deep faith. She passed away peacefully at her home in Peabody, MA, surrounded by the love of her family. Clara has gone to join her "one and only" beloved husband, James P. Lake, with whom she shared a devoted and loving marriage. Together, they raised a beautiful family, instilling in their children the values of kindness, respect, and the importance of family. She is survived by her daughter Clara D. Lake and her late husband Carmen Gaeta of Debary, FL, her sons James P. Lake and his wife Carol of Dracut, MA, Joseph F. Lake and wife Cindy of Debary, FL, Mark Lake and wife Linda of Umatilla, FL, and Kurt Lake and his partner Todd Sanford of Peabody, MA. Clara is also survived by her Sister-in-law Ann Evans and her husband Edward, and her brother-in-law Phillip Lake and his wife Carol. Clara's legacy also lives on through her many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Clara was the sibling of a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph F. Veator Jr. and his wife Lorraine, Robert Veator and his wife Lillian, Ernest Veator and his wife Margaret, and her sister Lillian Maggliozzi and her husband Leo. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie Cavicchio and her late husband Frank, sister Shirley Finney and her late husband Richard, sister Dorothy Veator, and her brother James Veator. Each of Clara's siblings held a special place in her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Throughout her life, Clara's greatest pride and achievement was always her family. She dedicated herself to creating a home filled with love, comfort, and tradition. One of Clara's greatest pleasures was cooking Sunday and holiday dinners for her family. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and laughter, where recipes were shared, and memories were made. She enjoyed annual pilgrimages to Ste. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec City with her beloved husband Jim and their children. In her later years, Clara enjoyed visiting her family in Florida, where she relished in the sunshine and the company of her loved ones.
Clara's life was a testament to the power of a loving heart and a generous spirit. She lived by the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Clara embodied this sentiment, finding joy in the simple acts of kindness and the everyday moments of connection.
As we bid farewell to Clara, we celebrate a life well-lived, a matriarch cherished, and a legacy that will continue to inspire. She was the embodiment of love and generosity, and her faith carried her through the joys and challenges of life. Clara Jean (Veator) Lake will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on through the lives of those she touched. May she rest in peace, knowing she was dearly loved and that her memory will be a blessing to us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Wednesday August 27th from 5 - 7 PM at Mackey Funeral Home, 128 s. Main St. RT 114, Middleton, MA 01949.
