Cheryl A. Wheelwright, age 72, formerly of Salem, NH passed away peacefully at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA on December 20, 2021 after a courageous 12-year battle with liver disease and cancer..
Cheryl was born on April 28th, 1949 in Cohasset, MA. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Muriel (Menke) Wheelwright of Cohasset, MA. Cheryl graduated from Cohasset Highschool in 1965 and completed her degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts in 1969.
Cheryl’s career was in Human Resources as a recruiter and Manager, first at Brigham’s in Boston before moving into electronics at Alpha Industries. Her later working years were in contracting. She was very proud of helping to break the glass ceiling for women in the business corporate world and advancing women in that world.
Cheryl had a very engaging personality and enjoyed meeting and talking with new people. If you left her alone in a restaurant for 10 minutes she had 10 new friends when you came back. She loved to travel and so enjoyed the many trips she made over the years, particularly long road trips to visit the grandkids and the work travel with Steve to Southeast Asia.
Cheryl loved the Wheelwright family gatherings in Cohasset and Marshfield and often recalled those outings with a laugh and a twinkle in her eye. She loved life.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Stephen Mahoney, of Salem, NH. and her stepsons, Sean Mahoney and wife Angie of Florida, and Jared Mahoney of Springfield MA. She will keenly miss her grandchildren in FL: Ava, Declan, Keegan, Alyssa and Wren. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Joan (Murphy) Mahoney of Beverly MA and Stephen’s siblings Carol Mahoney, Paul Mahoney, Kathy Lauranzano, Patricia Dieffenbach-Mahoney and Julie Gentile and the many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her father-in-law William Mahoney of Beverly MA, her brother in law Peter Figgie of Entfield CT and her Uncle Kenneth Evans of Marshfield MA.
Cheryl is also survived by her favorite sister Sandra Figgie of Enfield, CT, nephew Scott Shain and his wife Karen of Plymouth MA, their daughter Sarah, and nephew Kevin Shain, his wife Michelle and their children, Maia and Nate of Marshfield MA. As the 12th generation of American Wheelwrights, descended from Rev John Wheelwright, Cheryl was always proud of her family and her cousins, Evans and Dooleys.
Due to the pandemic there are no immediate plans for a memorial service but we will have one in the near future and will let you know the details.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Cheryl would want you to take a little time and spend it with a family member or friend you may not have seen lately. The open expression of love is what we have lost with Cheryl so see your people and cherish them.
