Charles Mills, Jr. Obituary

Charles Mills Jr., affectionately known as Charlie, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on May 13, 2024, in Salem, MA. Born on October 7, 1943, in Winthrop, MA, Charlie's life was characterized by his quick wit, and a myriad of interests that brought joy to both him and those fortunate enough to have known him. Charlie was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and partner. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his daughter, Holly Cusano of Tewksbury, MA, his son, Brian Mills, and daughter-in-law, Helena Mills of Hooksett, NH. His grandchildren, Taylor Mills of Lynn, MA, and Amanda Cusano of Tewksbury, MA, His great-grandchildren, Denarii Reynolds of Swampscott, MA, and Hope Cusano of Tewksbury, MA, will continue to be inspired by the stories of his life. Charlie's longtime partner, Elena Anderson of Middleton, MA, her daughter Masha, son-in-law Vladimir Gaber, and their children will miss his presence and the warmth he brought to their family gatherings.
An alumnus of Boston University, Charlie valued that education. His bachelor's degree was a point of pride and served as a strong foundation for his life. Charlie's passions were as eclectic as they were enthusiastic. A fervent fan of horse racing and country music, he found excitement and solace in the rhythm of the races and the melodies of his favorite songs. North Conway, NH, held a special place in his heart; it was there that he enjoyed trout fishing in the Saco River, creating lifelong memories with his son and daughter during their younger years. His love for old movies and TV shows was only matched by his love for sports and trivia, where his quick wit and extensive knowledge often made him the life of any gathering. His sense of humor was legendary among those who knew him, with a laugh that was both infectious and endearing. Charlie's enjoyment of casino trips and playing slot machines was well-known, and he often shared stories of his adventures. Charlie's life was one well-lived, filled with the simple pleasures that make a life meaningful. His love for his family, his partner, and his wide array of hobbies painted the picture of a man who embraced life's diverse tapestry with open arms.
As we say goodbye to Charlie, we cannot underestimate how his passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will continue to inspire smiles and fond remembrances for years to come.
A life well lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Charlie will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his vibrant personality and loving heart. As we reflect on his life, we take comfort in knowing that his journey was rich with love, laughter, and the joy of a life fully embraced. Rest in peace, Charlie; your story will be told with affection and your memory cherished forevermore.
