Carl Close, Sr. Obituary

Carl Lewis Close Sr., a loving cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 29, 2025. Born on May 11, 1939, in Lynn, Massachusetts, Carl's journey through life was marked by a profound dedication to his family, a passion for creativity, and a love for the great outdoors.

Carl's early life in Middleton laid the foundation for his strong work ethic and inventive spirit. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, a testament to his commitment to his country. Following his service, Carl channeled his precision and artistry into a successful truck lettering and pinstriping business, where his reputation for excellence became well-known. Carl's work definitely stands the test of times and you can tell a "Carl Close job" when you see it.

At home, Carl was the loving husband to his wife, Dianne (Levesque) Close, and a guiding light to his children, Carl Close Jr. (Susan), Joseph Close Sr. (Sherry), Tokala Close (Jennifer), and Jody Hawkins (Bernie). He instilled in them the values of love, creativity, and intelligence—qualities that he embodied every day of his life. Carl was a proud grandfather to Carl III and Alfred Close, Kylie, Zachary, and Dylan Close, Morgan Close, and Lily and Eli Hawkins and two great grandsons.

His family will forever treasure the memories created with him. Carl's legacy is also marked by the talents he nurtured and the hobbies he loved. He had an extraordinary ability to build steam engines, a craft that combined his mechanical acuity with his artistic sensibility. Engine shows were enlivened by his presence and his remarkable creations. Carl was also a skilled blacksmith, turning raw materials into traditional works of art. His hands were rarely still, always working on a project that would challenge his mind and delight those around him. Carl even built his home and many projects around the home with his mill. An ardent outdoorsman, Carl found solace and joy in nature. His pursuits of boating, fishing, and hunting were not merely hobbies but a way of life. He was happiest when surrounded by the beauty of nature where he would quiz his children on native flora and fauna or sharing his latest gunsmithing project with friends. Carl's love for the outdoors was infectious, inspiring all who knew him to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. Those who knew Carl will remember a man who was as loving as he was creative, as intelligent as he was humble. His impact on the world was as deep as the roots of the trees he so admired, and his memory will continue to grow in the hearts of those he touched.

Carl is predeceased by his grandson, Joseph Close Jr., and his mother, Phyllis (Reed) Close. His departure from this world leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will live on through the love he shared and the lives he influenced.

As the sun sets on a life so beautifully lived, we bid farewell to Carl Lewis Close Sr., a man who was not only the cornerstone of his family but also an inspiration to all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. His story does not end here, for the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the memories he created will continue to shape the world in countless ways. Rest in peace Carl, you will be forever missed and your legacy will live on forever.
