Anthony Francis Spignese II, 85 – Beloved husband of Sharon Spignese of Peabody, died peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Seasons of Danvers. Born in Somerville, MA, the son of the late Anthony and Mary Spignese. Anthony grew up in Somerville and attended Somerville High. After High School he enlisted in the Army and served for two years, eventually moving to South Dakota. He attended South Dakota State on a football scholarship and later earned his master’s degree at South Dakota University.
While he was at South Dakota State he met the love of his life, Sharon Brinkman. They married and started their family in South Dakota before returning to Somerville and eventually settling down in Peabody. Tony was a teacher in the Revere public school system for 35 years. He is fondly remembered by countless students who he taught in shop class and mentored in life. He coached the girls’ basketball and softball teams, volunteered his time as a CCD teacher, and organized various church events. The Little Sisters of the Poor in Somerville counted on him, as he was a “jack of all trades” when it came to maintaining their facility.
Tony was also an active member at St. Adelaide’s Parish for most of his life and generously donated his time. He was happiest when he was doing things for others.
He enjoyed summers down the Cape, clamming, spending time with his family, and maintaining his property. He was meticulous and took pride in having the best lawn in the neighborhood. He looked forward to spending winters on Marco Island and chilling with Sharon on “the Lanai.” He lived for his family. Anyone who knew Tony knew that he just could not do enough for you. He was loved dearly and will be missed by many.
Tony is survived by his wife Sharon with whom he shared 59 years of marriage; his son Anthony Spignese and his wife Nancy of Danvers with their sons Anthony and Jake; his son John Spignese of Yarmouth with his son Nick and daughter Christina, and his daughter Lisa Bova of Peabody with her son Anthony and daughter Alyssa.
