Peter Larochelle Obituary

Peter Normand Larochelle, known as Pete, left this world too soon on April 21, 2024, after a brief and sudden illness. Born on May 5, 1976, in Lowell, Massachusetts, Pete's infectious laughter and quick wit had been a light in the lives of those around him. He passed away in Florida after a golf weekend where he proudly and aptly played the best round of his life. He was surrounded by warmth and love to the very end.

Pete was the cherished son of Connie (Normand) and the late Richard Larochelle. He grew up in Waterville, ME, the youngest of his 5 siblings who described him as an “active social scholar”. He made many lasting friendships during his high school years where he played golf and tennis. He was a devoted uncle to his nine nieces and nephews. If you had the pleasure of knowing him -whether for 5 minutes or 5 years - your life was forever changed. He was charismatic and charming, with his infectious laugh and twinkling eyes.

Pete’s college years at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute were as enriching as they were enjoyable. Graduating in 1998 with a degree in Chemical Engineering, he was more than just a student—he was a central figure at the Alpha chapter of Theta Xi fraternity. Known for his love of music and his ability to lighten any mood, Pete was also impressively able to find rest wherever it was needed, much to the amusement of his friends. These years solidified lifelong friendships and shaped his future, embodying Theta Xi's ideals of leadership, service, and brotherhood.

In the professional realm, Pete was a force of nature in industrial automation. Co-founding MES Technologies in 2004 with Dan Perkins, he focused on MES and SCADA applications across various vertical markets. In 2009, Pete became a pivotal figure at NeoMatrix, joining forces with Dan Perkins and Danny Haskell to drive the company forward. His role evolved over the years, from spearheading the MES division to taking on the mantle of Visionary for NeoMatrix in 2019. His knack for blending technical expertise with strategic business acumen made him a respected leader, admired for both his intellect and his approachability.

Beyond his professional life, Pete was a master of the poker table and loved live music festivals. When it came to the poker table, Pete was known among friends for his strategic mind and occasional bold gambles. His participation in the 2003 World Series of Poker, while short lived, was a highlight, showcasing his adventurous spirit and love for the game. Pete also had a deep affection for animals, he could often be found snuggling whatever dog was around. Pete’s vibrant personality made him a beloved figure in his community, and his zest for life brought joy to every gathering.

An avid golfer, Pete found peace and camaraderie on the greens. His interest in cooking was more than a hobby; it was an expression of love, and he enjoyed creating meals that brought people together. Pete's playful spirit especially shone when he was playing with his son, Teddy and his snuggles were second to none. He loved to tell a good joke even though he often messed up the punch line because he couldn’t quite remember how the joke was told. Pete's summers in Maine were a testament to his love for life's simple pleasures, whether he was water skiing, riding an ATV, fishing, or sitting around the campfire.

He is survived by the love of his life, Gentel (Smith), with whom he was a devoted husband and a superhero father to his stepdaughter, Grace, and son, Teddy; his mother Connie (Normand) Larochelle; his siblings Anne and husband Scott, Paul and wife Carrie, Christie and husband Chris, Marc and wife Jess; and his beloved nieces and nephews - John, Paige, Ashley, Jacklyn, Kurt, Tracy, Evan, Alden, and Lincoln. He was predeceased by his father, Richard Larochelle, and his Uncles Richard and Roger Normand, all of whom he held in high esteem and loved dearly.

Pete's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness is carried on through Gentel, Grace, and Teddy. Their home was a hub of happiness, filled with the aroma of Pete's cooking, the sound of shared laughter, and the quiet moments of connection that define a family. Pete was a treasured friend to more people than there are golf balls lost in the woods. His legacy is not just in the accomplishments he achieved or the career he built, but in the hearts he touched, the smiles he created, and the laughter he inspired. As we bid farewell to Pete, we celebrate a life lived fully, a life that will continue to inspire and bring joy to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Rest in peace, Pete; you have left this world far better than you found it.
